Next up for #Johnuary is John Barry’s score for Dances With Wolves.
I managed to rewatch this film for this blog post. Certainly not a chore, as I love this film. Although I inadvertently watched the Extended Edition and only realised that after 3 hours and discovered there was still 45mins left. I wasn’t complaining though. I just really like this film, and the score is certainly a great part of it.
The main John Dunbar theme is right at the heart of it. It’s used in many ways throughout the whole score, and quite right too as it’s great. The whole score is just very grand and beautiful, just like the landscape within the movie itself. Beautiful strings but also with a very strong melody.
John Barry won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for this movie, so obviously the Academy agreed.
Here is the main John Dunbar theme.
