I’ve always been a fan of Street Fighter 2. Ever since I first played it in an arcade and was totally wowed by the graphics, the music, the sound effects and the one-on-one action. It was just a game that totally hit the zeitgeist of the gaming community and pulled us back into the arcades at a time when home consoles were becoming huge. I was subsequently of course also wowed by the seemingly near arcade perfect port of Street Fighter 2 on the Super Nintendo too!

As games go it really is one of the most iconic arcade games out there. I’m sure Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Star Wars, Out Run and Street Fighter 2 would be in a lot of people’s most iconic arcade games. It’s up there with the best of the best.

One of the reasons for its long-standing popularity, going through about six versions of SF2 and spawning three further sequels, has to be down to the characters. Their designs, sound effects and special moves are huge elements that make the game what it is. “Hadouken”, “Yoga Fire” and “Sonic Boom” are part of our lexicon now. Chun-Li is definitely one of the most ‘fancied’ characters, up there with Lara Croft. And Ryu must be one of the most recognisable game characters ever.

I’m a big fan of the game, so I was very interested when I was contacted by Fanhome to ask if I would like to review their latest range of collectibles. As ever when reviewing a product I only accept offers of products that I would be genuinely interested in myself and I always state that I will be giving my honest opinion.

I don’t have much experience of the subscription model myself but, in this instance, when you signup you get two figures in the first monthly delivery. Ryu and Ken. Then every month from then on you receive four figures. For example, the second delivery contains Blanka, Vega, M. Bison and Chun-Li. In total there is a whopping 60 figures in the collection, which just goes to show how rich the game’s world is with characters. So far I’ve received the first two packages and the figures are very cool. Great designs and nicely painted. I’m very much looking forward to getting the Dhalsim, Guile and Sagat figurines as they look particularly awesome.

But it’s not just the figures. One aspect I was very impressed with is the extra info you get in the form of booklets and posters. Each character comes with a very detailed 12 page booklet, with info and history about the character, special moves, artwork and a poster. Very nicely done.

All in all, for any self-respecting Street Fighter fan, these figurines will be a very welcome addition to your collection. All the information, including prices can be found on the website at http://bit.ly/FH_streetfighter
