My look through all the old Your Spectrum and Your Sinclair magazines continues, in the run up to the ZX Spectrum Next launch (as explained before in my first post about Old Spectrum Mags). Here’s my look at the highlights of Your Spectrum Issue 09 from November 1984.
All images are taken from the Internet Archive. Here is the full magazine if you want to take a closer look. Kudos to Jason Scott for uploading it. https://archive.org/details/your-spectrum-magazine-09
I have to say, this is the best issue of Your Spectrum that I have looked at yet. Loads of really cool stuff inside it! I might even try to get a physical copy of it off eBay.
I like the newspaper style cover. Very cool.
Interesting articles below about Barry Norman and also Marvel Comics. I never knew Barry Norman hosted shows about computers. And why not?
Pretty cool having a picture of Tharg in there.
Trashman is storming up the charts this month. Perhaps having the double page spread in almost every issue of Your Spectrum has helped!
To be honest I’m really not quite sure what this thing does, but it looks awesome!
50 games on one cassette eh? Great value for money but it must have been a nightmare fast forwarding and rewinding to the right spot on the tape?
Extremely cool two page spread about the upcoming Spectrum+. Exciting times.
A very unsubtle ripoff of the title of “Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy”!
This is a very cool article where they look at three games that could be considered ripoffs of Manic Miner, one being Monty Mole! I love the two page spread with the game comparisons.
Sheer elegance. So much so that it has a lovely dip at the top in which you can leave your impressive ball point pen to show just how elegant you are.
Ever since watching and loving WarGames I’ve had a thing for computers talking to me. Great review here of all the ways you can get your Spectrum to talk to you.
Another ripoff here. This time of Blockbusters! They spelt it with a space AND with a hyphen, just to make sure you didn’t think they were referencing the TV show in any way at all.
I could read these all day. Gareth Jones describes himself as a “loveable (!) war games-type hacker minus the modem”. Interesting!
Great article here with one of the senior staff at Software Projects, talking about Matthew Smith.
Tune in soon for the next thrilling issue of Your Spectrum!
