“God bless Quest TV” is all I can say. After being cancelled in the US, the awesome Toy Hunter show was picked up by Quest TV in the UK and the new season aired here last Wednesday. Good times.
If you haven’t seen Toy Hunter it’s basically retro toy porn. That’s the best way to describe it. The hero of the piece is Jordan Hembrough, a real life toy expert, collector and dealer. The show follows him travelling around the US, and now the world, searching through people’s lofts and garages to find old toys that he can resell at conventions or to serious collectors. I know some people don’t particularly like the ‘drama’ or bits that look scripted or setup, but hey, it’s a TV show and they have to do something to make it interesting to a mass audience, particularly when it’s a niche topic like this. I actually quite like it when Jordan hams it up anyway. I find him really likeable and think he’s the kind of guy you could hang out with over a beer and talk about toys.
They try to mix up the show with showcasing a variety of toys, giving some educational titbits about some toys and also adding in the drama of will he or won’t he make his profit target. For me, it really works. I love the show and it’s one of the few shows these days that I have on series link.
So glad it has come back and I feel very thankful to Quest TV for giving Jordan a new lease of life. The next episode is tomorrow night at 10pm on Quest. Check it out!
