We are spoilt for choice by the quality of video games and other online games we have available today. Many of the modern games are so realistic, they could easily be mistaken for watching a movie or a sports event. Today, it is possible to play PayPal slots at online casinos, which are a lot of fun but some people are switching to classic versions of both slot games and other retro video games.
Nostalgia
Many of the people who were youngsters when video games were first released on a mass scale in the 1980s and 90s are now in their 40s. It was this generation of people who played the likes of Super Mario, Street Fighter, DOOM, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Baldur’s Gate when they were first released. These games were available via cartridge or floppy disk and some would take a long time to load before you could begin playing. Now, the same people who were playing video games on the Atari, Spectrum, Amiga, Master System and Nintendo are at the age where they are getting nostalgic for games of the past. As adults, they have their own disposable income and that means they can buy all the retro games they like and play them for as long as they want.
Affordable Prices
Many of the latest video games cost a lot of money to buy and some can cost well over 50 euro. With new titles released every month, it can soon cost a lot of money to keep adding the latest games to the collection. However, the rerelease of retro games mean gaming has become a lot more affordable for the average person. For example, Doom is available to buy online for under 5 euro and there are many other retro titles on offer for the same price or cheaper. Street Fighter, Dizzy, Kick Off, Streets of Rage, Monkey Island, and Ridge Racer are all retro games that can be purchased cheaply and played online.
Remakes
A wonderful way retro games having been making a comeback is via remakes and sequels. Fallout is the perfect example and many of the younger generation today do not know the original Fallout videogame was released in 1997. There have been many sequels since the original Fallout game and Fallout 4 sold 1.2 million copies upon release in 2016, breaking the record for the highest number of concurrent players on launch day. The previous record was held by Grand Theft Auto V and this is another example of a successful sequel based on a retro game. The original Grand Theft Auto game was released in 1997 and was played from a top-down perspective, something which has changed dramatically in more recent additions of the game.
Modern retro style games are also popular and these include video games that offer modern styles of gameplay but with pixel based graphics. Terraria, Starbound, and Stardew Valley are all modern games that have been designed to look retro by using pixel graphics. These games have over 20,000 people playing per day and that underlines how retro games are making a comeback.
