I just spent one of the best 30 minutes of my life. Kung Fury is brilliant.
Right, let’s back up a little bit here. Back in early 2014, David Sandberg from Sweden launched a Kickstarter campaign to make an 80s parody short film. The initial trailer was very impressive, particularly as these guys were just basically making this movie in their basement. Fast forward a few weeks and the Kickstarter had smashed its targets and they were getting worldwide press. Fast forward a year and they have David Hasselhoff making a music video for the film! Like its Kickstarter campaign said, it’s the greatest 80s action movie not made in the 80s.
Here is just a taste of some of the 80s awesomeness that they have in this film… Lamborghinis, David Hasselhoff, time travel, hacking, ghettoblasters, arcades, brick phones, Miami backdrops, buddy cop jokes, Lamborghinis, bad puns, Nazis, video game action scenes, cartoon sequences, a ZX Spectrum and a freakin’ Nintendo Power Glove! Did I mention Lamborghinis? And that’s just some of the 80s awesomeness. I don’t want to spoil it all of course.
They’ve even got a Kung Fury web shop where the soundtrack and single are available in vinyl.
Seriously, David Sandberg is a genius and I salute what he has done here. Hopefully this will lead to more work from him in this genre. I’ll be the first in line.
What are you still doing here? Go watch Kung Fury. Now.
